Holden Caprice / Statesman

Holden Caprice / Statesman

The distinction between both of these luxury models is difficult to fathom; the Statesman is a little softer compared to Caprice, it seems.

A conservative appearance - which conceals a classy chassis - states this is a range aimed squarely in the older driver.

Accordingly the main concern has been in providing a long wheelbase platform having a smooth driveline - power originates from the V8 of 5.7 litres found in Monaro and Commodore in the Caprice version, but is slightly detuned for the Statesman - along with a relaxed ride.

Having said that handling isn't bad, provided the vehicle isn't forced way too hard into corners. In which the cars really enter into their own is the place cruising for hours across the ribbons of tarmac that criss-cross Australia; the large, lazy engine rumbles together with no apparent effort.
